Selection Of Equipment Needed For Golf Course Irrigation

By George Wood

Nature can be quite breathtaking. The same can be said about certain landscapes that have lush green cover all round. There must be a secret to maintaining such areas. Some areas have the potential of maintaining their natural look but this tends to fade away with time. Golf course irrigation maybe one of the secrets used to keep such areas looking green and healthy.

There are different varieties of grass that are selected to grow in golf courses. Each variety has unique characteristics that set them apart from others. Each type should be able to handle foot traffic. The number of people on the field should not affect the health of the grass. Selection of the particular variety also depends on the region one is in. There are some common in a certain region and scarce in another.

Selecting the right grass is beyond necessary. The genetic composition of some species may prevent them from thriving in a particular environment. Wet conditions may be suitable for a particular kind. Growing it where the sun is too much is a simple death sentence for the plant. Other plants when in the presence of sun will still do well.

It is possible for deterioration to take place due to the activities on the field. Changes in the field will be noticed after a regular period of games where a number of individuals were involved. The grass should repair quickly and go back to its original state. Before more activities are carried out, the area is given time to rejuvenate.

Before setting up an irrigation system, you should ensure that there is a constant water source. This is a region where there is an efficient flow of water to be used. Water wastage should be at a minimum and if possible it should be eliminated. Variety of soil types take up water differently. This means different water ratios need to be selected depending on the soil type that the grass cover grows on.

Where there is a lot of wind transpiration of water takes place at a fast rate. This means not enough water will be getting into the ground. Irrigating in this region may need to be done in specific times when the wind currents are low. This may be early mornings or during the evening hours. Equipment selected for this work depends on the pricing in the market.

Machines with a single head can properly distribute water to areas closer to the head. This means that further regions will be left out. Excess water may be collected in the nearer regions. There will be a lot of run off. Manual watering can be used to supplement the problem areas. However, if the area to be covered is extensive this may end up being time consuming.

`Multi row sprinklers are the best for this work. They are placed in different positions so that they can efficiently reach a vast region. Their placement of the device will depend on the moisture requirements the land has. There are a number of designs that have the option of adding multiple nozzles. This will help evenly distribute the water.
