The Basics Of The DiSC Profile Test

By Rebecca Hamilton

This program is a workplace program that helps the manager, employee, and co-employee understand the dynamics that drive them and their co-workers or the people they manage. DiSC profile test helps you build more effective working relationships based on an understanding employees and their different behavioral styles. It is the most trusted paper learning instrument in the industry.

Four areas of personality is addressed with the DiSC instrument. Understanding these areas enables the determination of which employees will make the best working pairs. It also lets the HR person determine who would make the best hire, or whether a person would not be suitable at all because they don't fit the company's idea of a what they want.

A person gets assessed in four areas to determine their personality traits. The acronym DiSC is a combination of these areas. These areas are: Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, and Compliance. Dominance indicates how problems and challenges are handled. Influence indicates how people and contacts are interacted with and influenced. Steadiness indicates how consist one is. Compliance indicates how one handles procedures and constraints. Each of these factors has a strong impact on work places.

The person who administers this instrument must undergo training. They learn how to combine personality types to form good working pairs and teams. They also learn how to share these scores with the persons involved to help them bring out their best traits. This training includes training in the DiSC model, how to identify company goals and missions, and gaining an understanding of the acronym and its components.

The training is the most important aspect of using this system. Their are several ways to obtain the training. A person can choose from one or more delivery methods. There is an online, live web presentation. There is also an online presentation that is able to be accessed at any time, at ones own convenience. For those who want to work independently, there is a self-study course. There are several area classes that can be attended. A company can also sponsor a class at their own facility.

This system works extremely well in determining compatible pairs and work teams. Using the different traits of a person's personality, as refers to dominance, influence, steadiness, and compliance, when it is understood how these interrelate helps to choose compatible teams and helps to prevent less compatible pairs of employees. Getting the pairing correct will make pairing effective.

The assessment by this instrument can help a person understand their own personality, as well as helping the HR person understand as well. Exploring traits of each person helps with the understanding. For example, each trait has sixteen different traits that define that trait, and the person can determine what they have for each trait. There are opposites for each trait, that determines how the exhibit it. For example, in the area of influencing, there is optimistic and trusting, in opposition to suspicious and skeptical. Each trait has similar opposites.

None of the traits are truly negative. It is the way a person uses the traits that determine if they will lead to a working relationship. Compatibility is determined by these traits and ensure a good team. The HR person should share the traits for each person with them so they can make the most of them, and can work on relationships. This will also help them with their personal abilities.
