Ongoing Social Issue On Women Sports Oppression

By Toni Vang

When we talk about something that is universal and popular, sports will undeniably be among the top on the list. Different countries from different continents have special fascination to this industry. Its growth over the years has been very notable that more people who have passion for sports are now encouraged to step up and bring their passion to a whole new different level.

But all the fun and inspiring stories we hear about this arena is not the only issue present on this popular activity. It also has some dark sides about it. Sports oppression is one of the hottest issue even until now. May it be a group, a minority or a specific game that is the subject of this oppression, its impact is quite notable.

Many reports related to this issue involves women who are participating in mens sport. Aside from the differences in strength, there is this dissatisfaction issue about their performances as well. If you ask yourself now, its no surprise if you know more men players than women.

Criticisms are all over. Still, there are brave women on their league who faced the crowd, played the sport of their choice, and ended up garnering the win. It is during these moments when we see why gender does not really matter. As long as they are excellent at what they do, there is no harm done.

Still, the impact of this sort of oppression is notable. This is especially true to ladies who are just starting off their career in the sports industry. Good for those who have already established their names. But for starters it can be a constant struggle of proving themselves worthy.

Its great to see girls excelling at the sport that they do best. But we have to understand that the ones we know are those who manage to get over the criticism, shut their ears off the negatives and pursue what they believe is their passion. There are more tragic stories than the inspirational ones the media shows us.

At present, we now see more if not equal appreciation given to women and men. Still, it remains a question if there will come a time when equal footing in all events will be possible. For one, the media seemed to be more interested on games that have guys on them. When it comes to major, global leagues, we also see male players dominating the stage.

Different people have different opinion about something. And its inappropriate to judge someone if we are not even aware of the reason behind his stand. Same can be said for sports critics. They have their own perception, something which cannot be easily changed by a single argument.

Despite the wide negativity involved in this industry, this should not stop one from pursuing his passion in sports. However, she should also be ready for all the things that may come her way as a result of her bold decision. Evaluate your readiness. If your passion is greater than your fear, then you are a go.
