Discrimination comes in different forms and anyone can be a victim. Some of the oldest forms of discrimination are racial, gender related, and social. Some people are being bullied just because of their race. In history, black people have been oppressed merely because of their color. One of the worst forms is the period when the Nazis executed Jews just because of being Jews.
Although not as brutal and excessive as in the past, discrimination still happens to date in the form of bullying. This happens in schools, institutions, organisations, or even randomly on the road, and in media. Gender discrimination in sports media is an example. There are also athletes who are bullied and teased because of their nationality or race regardless of how good they are in playing.
There are also racial discrimination cases until today in sports. One example is when an official of the National Basketball Association or NBA mocked one player who happens to be Black. He uttered racial remarks against the player. But the good thing is that justice has been instantly served when the official was totally removed from the circle. His remarks were very discriminatory and many people in social media have been enraged.
It is utterly a cruel world for gays, lesbians, bis, and trans genders. They are being judged as carriers of AIDS and bad luck. People are almost condemning them even if they did nothing wrong. Just because of what they physically look like and how they act, they are regarded as useless in the society.
The media plays a crucial role in abolishing discrimination. Similarly, they can also be the ones who can trigger this. There are movies and shows that suggest bullying especially the lesbians and gays. They are exemplified as sinners and bad models in some movies and shows. They are still understood until this point in time. But it is a good thing they are now fighting and are coming out in the limelight.
When the public discovers this truth, they are being judged all the more. Then they are mocked and then spoofed in television gag shows or in parodies in social media video streaming sites. In addition, they become the talk of the virtual town.
When the public will know about the truth, they will mock the person and bully him or her in social media. This is simplest way to actually channel individual perspectives towards a celebrity. The worse thing is that the media seems to sensationalize this. They tolerate people spoofing or making fun of the involved person.
With the influence of television and the internet, kids are becoming bullies themselves. The usual plaintiffs are the Blacks. But sometimes, they just keep it to themselves until they develop emotional and psychological trauma.
The consequences of showing bullying as funny and amusing could be harsh especially among children. On the other hand, intensifying efforts to eliminate discrimination in any institution will have positive transformation effects to people.
