Hiring A Boat Trucking Pro Shows Good Sense

By Eric Burns

Anyone who loves water sports is likely to spend their entire lives graduating up to bigger and bigger boats. As they get into the middle class of the yachting world, it becomes less costly because they can trade in their current vessel to cover the down payment on a larger wave cruiser. Unfortunately, a certain percentage of these well-meaning individuals will fail to hire a professional boat trucking firm to deliver their new investment.

Most people truly do not have the skills or experience to tow something so large a long and perilous distance. If their auto insurance carrier does not strongly encourage them to change their mind about driving it themselves, then they are derelict in their duty. Any good broker should immediately recognize the inherent dangers, and be ready to give their client a detailed description of everything that could go wrong.

In addition to the insurance complications, the actual task of driving such a large vehicle long distances is inherently risky. It is most likely going to be towed on a trailer behind a truck much too small for the task, and such a trip can do costly damage to the truck transmission. Not only are they risking the life of their water vessel being damaged in an accident, but their daily vehicle could suffer damages that are not covered under any insurance plan.

Many of these craft are purchased out of country, and delivered to a harbor far, far from the home they will soon know. This creates an additional problem for the new buyer since they have to go twice as far to pick it up. The overall potential cost of picking up a large ship from one coast and driving it to the other will run them well over what a professional driver would charge them to perform this service.

Such an independent driver, in any country, would have the skills and experience to make the delivery in a safe and efficient manner. Bridges and tunnels are no sweat to these seasoned road jockeys. It carries a much lower risk factor for them to do the job they know rather than the new owner setting out and risking everything.

While the owner may be well meaning, he or she is most likely not going to have a big enough or sturdy enough trailer for their new ship. Using inadequate equipment makes the entire task unnecessarily dangerous for all. Not only do they endanger themselves, but every other motorist is also is peril from this choice.

Professional drivers will have much more adequate insurance for their service as well, and this is why an auto insurance carrier is likely to encourage the owner to hire someone. In this way, should there be an accident, the new owner holds zero liability for the consequences of their choice. In fact, the commercial insurance carrier will have to provide them with a brand new yacht.

Should an owner attempt to make their own delivery, and the worst happens, they could be found guilty of serious negligence. Not only can such charges be costly and complicate their lives, but if a person dies as a result, they can be charged with a much more serious crime. In the long run, they should find that they played it safe, and that it also saved them money.
