Alternative Food For Puffed Cereal

By Carol Parker

Most food shelves in the supermarket today do not miss to have cereals on them. To almost every child, the puffed cereal is attractive and would prefer to have it for breakfast of how much they cost. They are very crucial for the growth of the child, but guardians should limit how much these children take in these cereals. The following article gives you reasons that help you know why you should control the intake of these processed grains.

As much as their beauty activates the need to buy these cereals, experts say that they are not rich in nutrients. For sure, they are cheap, but the nutrient content is not worth the money. In fact, it would be better for someone to purchase unprocessed grains. This is because most of these cereals contain synthetic nutrients added to them, which can be very toxic to our bodies.

Every child knows that eating these grains for breakfast is standard. Parents should take caution as they consume them because they do not undergo proper digestion once the child ingests it. Manufacturers process these foods through a process known as extrusion. In this process, the grain, which takes the form of sludge, pass through small holes that dictate the shape that these grains will take. Thus, the process produces flakes, charms and puffed grain.

As the grain passes through the extruder, high temperatures force the sludge, which is their initial form, to dry up. For your information, the pressure and the high temperature are not suitable to the sludge because they deplete all the nutrients present in the food. As this damage takes place, the cereals will have fewer proteins. Manufacturers then choose to coat the food with oil and sugar, and this promotes it to have a crunchy and attractive look.

Many people who consume these foods daily can develop insulin problems in their body. Remember that the pancreas produce the insulin to help regulate body sugar. However, the pancreas may fail to execute its job properly because the cereals introduce a lot of sugar into the body. Victims will begin to experience body changes such as feeling hungry as soon as they take breakfast, or feeling tired and moody every morning.

Phytates are dangerous substances in our body. The processed grains contain this substance, which in real sense regulates the way the body absorbs minerals. For instance, some of the minerals include calcium, iron, zinc, and magnesium. As a caution, manufacturers should be keen to ensure that all the phytates present in these foods are no longer available.

To make sure you do not develop these problems in your body. It is important that you try to consume alternative breakfast foods. For instance, as much as many people disregard porridge, the drink is essential to the body. You can try to consume porridge with whole grain cereal.

If porridge is not worth it, include sprouted dehydrating grain cereals. As much as they are rare to find, they do not require a lot of expertise to prepare them. However, you need some time to understand how to do it. You will find them in different health stores and food aisles.
