A Guide On How To Set A Best Gopher Trap

By Joshua Hall

If you live near a big farm or bushy areas, you must have come across many pests one of them being a rodent. You may not physically see the pest, but you will see the dirt that they usually dig out while they are making their tunnels. The soil typically piles up to create a mound, and if you want to catch the rodents, you should create a Best gopher trap and set it at a place that you are sure the rodent will dig.

Usually, a lot of information is posted online about the characteristics of these rodents, but it is rare to find a post on ways to get rid of them. Some of the equipment you need to have to catch these pests are baits, a chain to make the bait stable, a stake to sturdy the chain, a shovel, a cupboard to cover the hole and gloves among others.

After you have assembled your tools, the first step is to find a mound that has been freshly dug by the rodents. If it rains, it can be a bit difficult to differentiate a fresh mound from an old one. You may spot the mounds by deposition of wet dirt or grass that has been pushed over. If you spot the mound, you can then start looking if there are tunnels around.

The rodents do not care much how the mound looks like. They just dig their tunnels and pull out the dirt through the mound. If you are lucky to find the tunnel, you can now dig a hole to uncover them. You should wear your gloves while doing this activity to avoid injuries. Clear the tunnels to make them wide open.

After that, you are required to clear all the tunnels and then block all the holes. If the rodent comes back, it will have to push the dirt for it to get in to the tunnel. Therefore, it is obvious that you will set your ambuscade on top of the hole. Make sure that you cover the hole with plastic to block light.

When you have set the bait, be patient and wait to see if this pest shows up. If pest is active, it can appear within a short time, but sometimes, it can take hours or even days. It is also possible that you fail to catch the thus do not get discouraged if you fail to nest it.

In the event your ambuscade missed the pest, dig it out with a lot of care so that you do not damage it as you can still use the bait. Your yard will be likely to be left with a very ugly spot thus be careful while removing the bait so as not to make it uglier.

If you are lucky to catch the pest, you have to decide what to do with it. You may still use the hole to bury the animal, but you must fill the tunnel first. You can then lay bait if you suspect that there was more than one pest. You can then wait for the grass to grow back to normal.
