Top Tips For Choosing A Public Speaker For Sports Athletes

By Carolyn Wallace

Motivation is food that every sportsman and woman requires once in a while. The best person to provide this motivation is an athlete who has already walked the journey. However, not every winning athlete will deliver a motivational speech that achieves your desired outcome. You need to choose your public speaker for sports athletes carefully to ensure that your expectations are met. What should you consider?

Choose an achiever and not just a winner. Motivation comes from overcoming adversaries. It is this spirit that differentiates ordinary athletes from winners. Choose a person who has overcome some of the toughest challenges in his or her sporting career. A lot of the sportsmen you are dealing with will appreciate this inspiration.

Choose the message for the speaker instead of allowing freeway. Athletes have the potential of sharing a lot whenever they have a platform. However, some of the experiences shared are irrelevant to an audience at one point or the time. However, when you choose a message that those in attendance will relate to, the speech has greater impact. The message should be chosen based on the theme of your conference.

The audience must have similarities that make it easier to relate with your guest. These similarities include gender, playing the same sport or facing similar challenges, among others. For instance, it is easier for a lady to inspire female athletes because she can identify with their challenges. It is also easier for a special Olympian to inspire persons with disabilities compared to a high achiever able bodied athlete. It is the ability to relate with your struggles that determines the nature of relationship and makes a guest more appropriate.

Focus more on lessons learnt than the achievements. Achievements can be read from the internet, magazines and other media outlets. However, the lessons that an athlete learnt in the process of achieving greatness are rarely captured in the stories. Further, sharing the lessons one-on-one compared to reading the stories on magazines is more impactful. The experiences shield the sports personalities from walking the path of failure and enable them to choose that of success.

Begin your search as early as possible. Sports personalities are always on high demand, either attending events or making media appearances. This makes it difficult to capture on a short notice. In the absence of ample time, preparation will prove difficult to make. This affects the quality of delivery made to your audience. It might also prove more expensive to capture an athlete on short notice.

Be ready to pay for his or her appearance. Each athlete has an appearance fee that is based on the season, expectations and audience he will be expected to handle. Negotiate a package that is reasonable and delivers value to you and the audience. Ask for several personalities to get the market rate but it should not be too exorbitant.

Guest speakers are an investment for a conference. They headline your event and will make it memorable in the eyes of the audience. The contract should be official and must outline your expectations and targets to the guest. Make the contract personalized to ensure that it meets your unique needs for each gathering.
