Useful Information Regarding Stainless Steel Screw Conveyor

By Virginia Gibson

At the moment, there are several different models and makes of conveyors. However, screw conveyor is probably the one that is the most commonly used for mechanical bulk solids. This product has a very simple design which makes it very reliable and efficient. Moving parts that need to be maintained and replaced are also few. This helps to eliminate the need for frequent maintenance and replacement of parts. Here are facts regarding Stainless Steel Screw Conveyor.

Another advantage which the devices come with that makes people to prefer them is their compact size. This is essential as it allows the device to consume little floor space when installed. Many businesses consider the design to be very useful due to the savings which they achieve in floor space. There are many other businesses which adopt these devices because of their small sizes.

These devices can either be installed vertically or horizontally. There are also other designs which allow for installation at an inclined position. Modern systems are made so that they can be configured to handle a wide range of materials in various applications. They can as well be used in a variety of work environments.

Typical conveyors are composed of screws which are mounted in enclosed U-shaped tube or trough. Normally, the screws have a single or multi sections with bearings for supporting it at either end. There are also cases when the screw are very long and require extra supports. The supports are normally in form of hanger bearings which are placed between sections of the screw from the top.

One end of the screw is normally made of a motor and a gear reducer. When the system is in use, material being moved is normally applied in one end of the screw to fill the space located between screw flights. Upon the machine being turned on, the motor begins to power the screws, causing the flights to push the materials along a trough. The material being moved gets discharged via an opening located on the other end.

The manner in which this conveyor is built, it is very versatile and suitable for use in very many high-temperature applications. For instance, it finds use in applications such as removing ash from boilers and feeding lime into kilns. All of these applications entail the use of very high temperatures. The materials moved in these applications are also very hot.

Handling very hot materials present several challenges to the conveying system itself. For instance, constantly handling very hot materials can cause the system to fail prematurely. System failure is usually caused by thermal expansion in mechanical components. Also, the safety of the workers is a major concern. However, to make sure that the product that one acquires will be able to remain functional for several years, it is important to work closely with the supplier.

There exist many specialized suppliers producing and selling high-quality products. The products from different suppliers are unique in many ways. Many models are normally built to be used in specific environments like hot and cold conditions.
