Importance To Rekey Locks Providence

By Kenneth Olson

Everyone feels safe when they are at home and the doors are locked. The locks help keep intruders out and if they do try to break in then you are able to raise alarm and get help before they steal or harm you. The best way to ensure security for your home is to make sure that you are the only one with the keys that can open by Rekey Locks Providence.

The process of rekeying basically involves having a locksmith take apart a lock cylinder and change the pins and springs within so that a different key can be used to operate the lock. It is a much cheaper option than changing the entire lock end the process also allows the locksmith to fix any underlying issues with the entire lock. Should they find a big issue with the lock, then they will recommend changing the entire lock.

If you were to get attacked or robbed in your new home and it is found that there was no break in, the first suspect would be those who had access to the keys before you did. The aim of the investigation is to find out if at all they were responsible. If they were not responsible, the investigation will look into other people connected to the previous owner or contractor that had access to the keys and may have a reason for breaking in or has a shady past.

Sometimes it is not the previous owner or contractor who can want to intrude into your home but people who they interact with who also have keys to the house. In the case of previous owners, such people may include relatives, friends or service providers. Some of the people that the contractor hired to help with the construction of the house may have had access to the keys and may decide to use them to their advantage.

Another reason why you would want to have the locks of your home re-keyed is when you want to deny someone who had previous access to your home. Such a person may be a service provider, friend, relative or lover that you had a falling out with. They may return the keys but you can never be too sure if they made spare copies.

The other advantage of rekeying when you move to a new home is that it saves you a lot of trouble when dealing with an insurance company. Insurance companies always make sure that you are not liable for any loss or damages due to negligence. They will look into the locks of the home and find out if at all you had them changed when moving in and who else has access to the keys.

If they find that you did not change the locks to the new home after you moved in, they are likely to settle for less, if anything at all, of the total amount of insurance that you are due. The fault of the vandalism will be partly on you due to negligence as you did not take precautions with the security of your home.

Many people would rather change the locks on their doors as it is what they are familiar with. Rekeying is not that common but it is just as good. All it takes is changing the pins and springs within the lock so that a different key can be used to unlock the door. It is just as safe as changing the locks but also much cheaper.
